Here he is again, back from three years of silence. Exactly where nobody would have expected him : at the Paris Opera. His condition ? The freedom of creating a simple solo. The whole work of Jerome Bel is based on the word and the thing. How can we name, and by doing this, what are we naming ? Did he decide to honour a star ? Certainly not : he has chosen an unknown dancer that he has pulled out of the anonymity of the Corps de ballet, giving this solo the name of the dancer : Veronique Doisneau. It is normal, because she is the unique subject ("sujet") of the choreography : the dancers of the Paris Opera are classified in categories : quadrille, coryphee, sujet, premier danseur and etoile. « In fact, I did nothing else than proposing a mechanism which enabled the production of the discourse of the dancer. That is what I am interested in now : listening to a singular experience and giving it back to the audience». The performance will open the season of the Paris Opera. That means it’s important, of course.
